To increase the scope of education and the students who have access to quality education, the state of West Bengal has announced Aikyashree Scholarship Scheme.
It consists of 5 scholarships for the minorities in West Bengal. The scholarships under this scheme would be entirely funded through the State funds.
The Aikyashree Scholarship Scheme was announced by West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation in the year 2019-20.
Who Comes Under The Minority?
According to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the following are considered minorities in India:
- Muslim
- Christian
- Jain
- Sikh
- Parsi
Therefore the following communities would be able to receive scholarships under Aikyashree Scholarship Scheme.
The Aikyashree Scholarship Scheme contains the following scholarships:
- Pre-Matric scholarship
- Post-matric scholarship
- Merit-cum-means scholarship
Pre-matric
The Pre-matric scholarship is designed to give financial aid to meritorious minority students from standard I to X to prevent school dropouts.
Criteria
There are certain points that have to be kept in mind before applying for this scholarship.
- The child should be a resident of West Bengal.
- Child should be studying in a school/institution recognised by the educational Council/Board of the State/Central government.
- Child should have scored not less than 50% marks in the previous qualifying exam.
- The annual family income should not be more than 2 lakh.
- Students studying in schools outside of West Bengal are not eligible for the scholarship.
Amount of Scholarship
The amount of scholarship for students studying in class I to V is Rs. 1,100.
The amount of scholarship for day scholars studying in class VI to X is Rs.5,500 and that of the hosteller is Rs.6,600.
Application time is July/ August every year at BOD/Municipality office
Post-Matric
It is constructed to encourage the pursuit of higher education among the minority category. The criteria and the amount is given below.
Criteria
The criteria is almost similar to that of Pre Matric level.
- The child should be a resident of West Bengal.
- Child should be studying in a school/institution recognised by the educational Council/Board of the State/Central government.
- Child should have scored not less than 50% marks in the previous qualifying exam.
- The annual family income should not be more than 2 lakh.
- Students studying in schools outside of West Bengal are not eligible for the scholarship.
The amount of scholarship is as follows:
XI and XII (Technical and Vocational courses)
Day scholars- Rs. 13,500
Hostellers– Rs.15,200
Undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses
Day scholars– Rs.6,600
Hostellers– Rs.9,600
M.Phil and PhD
Day scholar– Rs.9,300
Hosteller- Rs. 16,500
The application time is in July/ August at the DM office (Minority cell)
Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
This scholarship is to encourage minority students to go for technical and professional courses. The applicant:
- Must be a citizen of West Bengal.
- Must be studying in a school/institution recognised by the educational Council/Board of the State/Central government.
- Should have scored not less than 50% marks in the previous qualifying exam.
- Annual family income should not be more than 2.5 lakh.
- Who are residents of West Bengal but studying in Universities outside West Bengal but notifying the West Bengal Minorities department and Finance Corporation from time to time are also eligible.
Amount of Scholarship:
Day scholars– Rs. 27,500
Hostellers– Rs. 33,000
Procedure to Apply for Aikyashree Scholarship Scheme
There’s a step-wise procedure to apply for the Aikyashree Scholarship Scheme. The steps are given below.
- First, the student needs to obtain a user id and password through ‘student registration’ from the website.
- After getting a user id and password, one must click on ‘Student login’ and enter their user id and password after selecting their district. The student after logging in should fill in all the required things asked and also fill in their bank details.
- At last, the site will direct to the preview page, check every blank filled twice, especially bank details and only then click on submit. Take a printout of your application form for further usage.
Students can also keep track of their application status through the Track an application bar.
Condition for Scholarship
There are certain conditions that need to be adhered to.
- Students should submit an income certificate at the time of application.
- He/she should have regular attendance decided by the authority.
- The scholarship will be suspended or cancelled if the student violated any discipline or scholarship agreement.
- If a student is found to have attained the scholarship through a false statement, then the scholarship will be cancelled.
- The amount of scholarship will be directly directed to the student’s bank account under the Direct Benefit Transfer mode.
- An amount not higher than 2% will be kept by WBMDFC for the implementation of the Aikyashree scholarship scheme.
Renewal of Scholarship
For renewal of scholarship, the student must score 50% or above in their last qualifying exam and then visit the website to renew their scholarship.

There are various documents that have to be submitted to claim the scholarship. The list is given below.
- Domicile certificate of West Bengal
- Minority certificate
- Self-attested copy of previous examination mark sheet.
- Income certificate
- Aadhaar card
- Bank details

The State has started a housing program for the ones who belong to the weaker sections of the society.
Destitute Women
The program aims at giving permanent residence to women who have lost support from all corners of their life.
Ladies Bi-Cycle
The scheme is an attempt to encourage girls’ education.
Boundary Wall
A scheme to build walls around the graveyards.
