UPSC Exam Stages

UPSC conducts civil services exams for most of its recruitments. The civil services exam has 3 phases which are mentioned below:

Prelims

The first exam of UPSC is known as Prelims. It is an objective paper that consists of the MCQ questions. There is two paper in Prelims both of them contains 200 marks. Paper 1 consists of the general studies questions. The duration of paper 1 is 2 hours. The second paper consists the aptitude and reasoning. The duration of this paper is 2 hours and the paper is 200 marks.

Prelims exam is a qualifying exam so you can sit in Mains Exam. The marks obtained in Prelims are not added to final marks.

Mains

The second phase of the civil services exam is the Mains exam. Students who qualify for the Prelims exam can sit in the Mains exam. The Mains exam consists the 9 subjective papers. From 9 papers, the first two of them are qualifying papers the remaining 7 papers marks are added to your final list. The duration of every Mains exam is 3 hours.

Interview

Candidates who score well in their Mains exam are summoned for the interview round. The interview round contains 275 marks. In the interview round, they check the personality of a candidate that it is suitable for this post or not. The interview marks are added to your final scores.
